I was having a wonderful morning on Granville Island today, eating a brunch I was not so impressed with at Cat’s Social House (umm… when did that change names?!) and who do I spy? David Brent himself, Ricky Gervais… strolling around with a lady friend / wife / girlfriend / lover / groupie (?) wearing a black t-shirt with a black sweater tied round his waist - I kid you not. He came onto the patio, sat at a table for perhaps 2 minutes, then got up and left. Probably a good idea - food really only just made the average cut. I had the egg sandwich. Processed cheese, iceberg lettuce, egg, avocado, bacon. Very basic. Wish I had ordered the eggs benedict - they looked much more appealing.
I have long been a fan of Mr. Gervais. The Office is absolutely one of my favourite British comedies (along with Little Britain and Coupling). I have no care for the American version. They just can’t replicate British comedy. I’m kind of outraged that the Americans are next going to try to copy Australian comedy in a new version of Kath and Kim. PS… you must check out the original Kath and Kim if you can - classic.
I desperately wanted to say something to Ricky but thought it would be a bit naff. Plus… couldn’t really come up with anything clever. He’s in town for a role in A Night at the Museum II.
Side note: Other celebrities in Vancouver - John Cusack (sigh - had the pleasure of spotting him at the Wolsely in London in May), Amanda Peet and Ben Stiller. Coming in September - Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock. Why he goes by Dwayne now, I’ll never understand… you just can’t go wrong with a name like The Rock.

Excellent write up. Yeah the British Office is way funnier than the American version.
