online dating: what’s what

Recently I thought I would do some research into the world of online dating. I signed up for Lavalife, Plenty Of Fish and Sugardaddie.com. I am a firm believer in fate as well as attraction fatal :) Er… I mean, love at first sight… and not a bit interested in meeting ‘the one’ over a link. However, since I am open to all things that could lead to fun as well as spicing up the daily routine, I decided to give it a leap of faith and see what this is all about. I also thought it would be good to compare these sites for you singletons searching for those special people to keep you warm over the winter. Here are my thoughts so far on these three dating sites:

Lavalife: The basic usability of this site is free, but for any extra perks you have to pay for credits (1 month: $29.99; 6 months: $14.99). Overall, clientèle seem to be a bit more serious. The site offers three sections: dating, relationships and intimate encounters. I put myself on the dating section, however I’ve been getting more hits from the relationship seekers - yikes! I’m not going to lie, it’s kind of annoying that a lot of the options you have to pay for. On the flip side, I guess it would weed out the people who aren’t so serious about it or who are cheap. Also, for the life of me I can’t figure out how to turn off the instant messaging system.

Plenty of Fish: So far my favorite site. Very easy to use, it’s free, and has some cool quizzes which help you match up. My only gripe is the dumb ass gifts people can send each other. Like I really want to receive virtual flowers and teddy bears, come on people this isn’t cool.

Sugardaddie: This site definitely gets an A for having the most weirdos online. I guess that’s what you get if you sign up for a site called sugardaddie.com. I actually got so creeped out that I had to take my picture off. I know I wimped, but heh, what if my boss is on there? Maybe I’m giving off the wild vibe, cause most of the men on here who have contacted me were married and looking for a side bit. Actually, some of the proposals would be tempting if they weren’t 60 and needing some serious hair plugs and Viagra.

Overall I say if you’re single, give it a whirl. What’s the worst that can happen?
